"If sharing my story makes even one person feel less alone, if it helps them see that life can be wonderful despite the challenges, then it’s all worth it—every shot, every bolus, every carb count.”

For Kari, life with type 1 diabetes can be described in three words: demanding, teachable, and empowering. “It asks a lot of me every single day,” she explains, “but it’s also taught me more about myself than I ever expected, and in that process, it’s made me stronger.”

In her role as Dexcom advocate, Kari hopes to leave a legacy of connection and encouragement. “If I make even one person feel less alone, if it helps them see that life can be wonderful despite the challenges, then it’s all worth it—every shot, every bolus, every carb count.”

Noting that every decision matters, from food and sleep to stress, Kari says living with diabetes has made her much more focused on her health. “It’s made me more intentional and grateful. I don’t take feeling good for granted anymore.”

As a Dexcom employee, Kari sees firsthand how technology can transform the lives of people with diabetes. She also sees that community is a crucial element for anyone in their diabetes journey.

“Beyond the devices and data, what really matters is community. That’s what advocacy is really about,” she says. “Turning something demanding into something that teaches us, and ultimately, empowers us to live fully.”
