“Living with diabetes has given me the tools to take charge of my health in a way I never had before.”
Retta, the beloved actress and comedian known for her roles in “Parks and Recreation” and “Good Girls,” is bringing her signature wit and warmth to a new role: diabetes advocate. As a Stelo* ambassador, Retta is using her platform to raise awareness about the importance of glucose monitoring and empower others to own their health.
She sums up her experience with diabetes in three words: “Monitor, adjust, improve.” For Retta, those words reflect the rhythm of her diabetes journey and the mindset that’s helped her thrive.
“Understanding your glucose is like having a blueprint for a healthier you,” she says. “About a third of people in the U.S. have diabetes or prediabetes and many don’t even know it. I just want to help people see how manageable it can be when you pay attention to it.”
When Retta was first diagnosed, it didn’t fully sink in. But once she began tracking her glucose and noticing how food, sleep, and movement affected her, things started to click.
“Before I was diagnosed, I didn’t fully understand what diabetes even meant,” she admits. “It’s not just glucose; it’s your fuel, your energy, and even your mood.” For her, understanding glucose helps her feel her best.
To those who are newly diagnosed, she says, “Don’t panic. Little changes I’ve implemented, like swimming a few laps or tweaking meals, can really help.”
Using Stelo she’s able to see how her choices impact her glucose. “It’s helped me make small, smart adjustments that add up to feeling stronger, more energized, and completely in control,” she says.
That feeling of empowerment is why she advocates. “I just want to help people see how manageable diabetes can be when you pay attention to it.”
